Win Some | Lose Some

In all honestly I almost wore a gold metallic trench with this outfit. Do you ever just feel like you just want to be part of Destiny's Child? I do, and that trench helps. But anyway... I clearly didn't wear it so I'll shut up about it now. I went for a striped blazer because that seemed more universally accepted. Does it make me feel like I'm in a groovy girl band? No, but it does feel like a sweatshirt. You win some and you lose some.

Brighten It Up

Guess who didn't blog yesterday? Moi! It's just been one of those weeks, ya know? And when its one of those weeks the last thing you want to do is get dressed. But you'll be proud to know that I did get dressed today AND put on lipstick. I know I know. :')
Also... someone told me they thought this was a "summer" dress, and I just want to know when yellow became seasonal? For me I think sunny dresses add a lot to the bareness of January. Like if you want wear your brightest dress in the dead of winter... I'll cheer you on. You have Hannah's stamp of approval.

And we have a special guest appearance today... He's such a natural in front of a camera.

Crazy Cat Lady ft. Snow

(Doesn't my cat look like she wants to kill me? D'awww. She's the sweetest.)
As soon as I saw how much snow we got I decided it was the perfect opportunity to get some new photos of Emma and I. (Once upon 2 years ago I had a legit photoshoot done with her) Of course I woke her up from her nap and she wasn't over thrilled about all the snow, so this was all we got. It's also the only "cute couple" pic I'll have to post on Valentine's Day....so there's that.

(turns out snow isn't like confetti)

(turns out I don't look too hot throwing snow)

(oh ground you "snow" funny.)

Cloudy Day | Bright Skirt

As you can see here....it is a cloudy day and I am wearing a bright skirt. Phew. Glad we cleared that up.
Rach found this skirt for me at goodwill and I fell head over heels in love. I couldn't wait until the first ballroom class off the year to wear it. I paired it with polka dot tights because black tights would have been so predictable and I'm not about that life.

(Does wearing a black hair ribbon make me feel French? Oui!"

The requirements for Han's ballroom skirts are as follows: spiny.

Skirt: Goodwill (Ideology brand); Shirt: Tjmaxx; Tights: Tjmaxx (Ralph Lauren); Shoes: thrift store

And here are a few pics from the night!
(I'll introduce you to some of my favorite people!)

^Here we have Me, Lily (you may recognize her from this post), Shayna, and Skyler (one of my best guy friends and trusty bow-tie model)^

^Here we have two of my best friends Amaris and Lily^

^And here we have another one of my best guy friends Kevin^

^And finally we have me not succumbing to the mindless shenanigans of this generation. Rise above kids. Rise above."

When You Just Don't Understand

So grab a seat (you probably already have) and let's have a talk. This is something that's been weighing on my heart for months (years really), and I just need to confront it. There's something I don't understand about fashion. *Gasp* I know, I know. Please don't fall out of the chair I told you to grab. It's now "why is this considered fashion" (I think for the person obsessed with christmas trees it would be great) or "why is this considered fashion?" (if you are trying to avoid hugs this would come in handy). No, no, no. It's "why are you not supposed to mix neutrals". Who in the heck decided that you can't wear black with brown, or navy with grey, or black with navy, or brown with grey? Well I'm here to put an end to that ridiculous misconception because this is America and you CAN. While we're at it... consider stripes, cheetah print, and polka dots all neutral as well and feel free to mix them all together to your heart's content.
Well. I'm glad we had this little chat. I hope everyone feels much freer to live their life and wear all their neutrals at once. Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for reading!

I'm super excited to talk about where my scarf is from, because if there's one thing I love more than fashion (there are actually lots of things).... It's fashion for a cause. Here's a (long) exert from my sister's blog talking about the scarves.

"A friend pointed me to this project, based out of Indonesia (where I’ve BEEN–isn’t that crazy??), that empowers women to provide for their families while staying at home and enjoying them. I read the stories on the website, about these women with their warm, soft hands that touch cheeks and pour milk and sew beads and lace around other fingers. I could scroll down and see every face. Read every story. As a story-oriented person, my heart tightened and then overspilled with love for these women in homes eight thousand miles from mine. I wanted to see life like they did. What would it be like to live on less than $120 a month? To keep the children home from school because you couldn’t afford to pay for a test? To go to a stranger for money because your baby was crying and you didn’t know where the next bottle of milk would come from?
We spend so much money and time and effort looking nice. But for what eternal value? Whose lives are changed by the Target sweater you’re wearing? What will your Old Navy boots mean to someone else in fifteen years?
This is important to me. This is a way–a small way, almost tiny enough to cup in the palm of my hand, but a way nonetheless–to make a difference. To invest in a person, not a company. To place money in the hands of women and families with lives and futures.
Ayu is the Javanese word for beautiful. Not just because of the rich batik silk. Not because of the white smiles against tan faces. Not even because of the lovely concept of empowering women in another country.
This is beautiful because God filters all this through His hands. Because something as simple as a strip of silk wrapped around your neck can put milk in a bottle and pencil lead on a test paper. We give not because of what we think we can do, but because of what we know He is capable of doing. It’s beautiful and grand and humbling that the dollars we skim off the top of our paychecks can fill the gaps in someone else’s life."

In Sickness and Health

I definitely was not on day #4 of a cold.
I definitely did not eat chicken noodle soup and ice cream all day.
I definitely was not sneezing every 2 minutes.
I definitely did not lay on the couch in fuzzy pants and watch "My Little Pony".
I definitely was not suffering from voice loss.
I definitely did not get dressed up just to take these pics and then change back into fuzzy pants.

Or wait....

Catty

This is my "catty" skirt because even though you can't tell... it's gold leopard print. I made it to fit me almost too perfectly, because when I sat down in church I found myself praying. "dear Lord please let me have double sewn these seams. I could go without it ripping in the back," But good news:  even after the 3 donuts it never ripped. That's my kind of skirt.

(seriously contemplating jumping in that puddle)

(also if you realize your outfit has no color just throw on some bright lipstick.)

Feelin' Foxy

So I decided I'd take a break from blinding you with my color choices, and go for more of a neutral look. I wasn't necessarily feeling foxy, but the girls at church call this my "foxy" coat, so we'll go with that. I wore this outfit to my friend's surprise birthday party over the weekend, and am pleased to announce that it proved durable for all the dance moves I broke out.

(sassily walks away from camera)

And here's a pic from the party!

Shoutout to my girl Mary for dancing and singing along with me to Backstreet Boys, Taylor Swift, Spice Girls, and of course Disney. We tore up that dance floor.

Purpley

So apparently "purpley" is not a word, which is embarrassing and disappointing when you consider how many times you've used it. But this is my blog so we can use it if we want to.
Saturday I was apparently feeling very purpley from my eyelids, to my lips, to my neck, to my coat. Also I got hit on for the first time ever in this outfit, but they complimented me on the color of my coat and my beautiful scarf... so it's all good.

(the old guy who wears bowties and owns my favorite antique book store told me he liked my "wingtip oxfords" , which is such an accomplishment.)

Here I can be seen in my favorite corner of my favorite vintage store. (shop link here)

Also... I'm thinking about decorating the studio with these come springtime. Thoughts?
