Dress (for) Yoself

Whenever I get dressed I still think about that time last year when THREE different guy friends in the same week said to me "I like girls who dress really simply". I remember looking down at my striped sweater and polka dot pants, laughing, and sarcastically replying, "well its a good thing I don't dress for guys!" Then in my head I repeated more seriously, "it is a good thing I don't dress for guys." Now I'm not talking about disregarding modesty and the whole "whatever to guys" movement, but more so that the way you should dress should reflect your personality and what makes YOU happy. For me I have a very colorful and bubbly personality so I never flinch at wearing several patterns or colors at one time. I have friends who are very laid back and prefer neutrals, and I have friends who are more classic and prefer black and white. But the point is... whatever style you prefer you should rock. Never EVER change your style (or personality) around what a guy or anyone else likes.

Wasn't that empowering? I agree! Glad we had that talk.

  2. THANK YOU!! I always cringe when someone say something starting with "guys like girls who..." Frankly, once I "have a guy" I'm sure I'll listen to his preferences and conform to them a little, (I mean, if the poor guy really does dislike orange enough to mention it, I think I can handle not wearing it so that I don't really annoy him. :) But right now it doesn't really matter. It's not really about the clothes, but about relationships and personality. I think it is important for girls to feel comfortable in their clothes, and so many struggle with self-image and worth already.
Personally, my style is more classic, the blacks and muted colors, although lately I have been trying to be a little more adventurous and buying more outgoing pieces, (like the silver sparkly sweater I found at goodwill a few weeks ago. :). I love your outfit, (although it's just a little more outgoing that I would be comfortable with. :). And your hair is gorgeous in these!!

    1. EXACTLY! I want my husband one day to appreciate the way I dress, but I don't want him to be super controlling about whether he likes the stripes going horizontally or vertically, and I don't a man should ever make his wife not feel beautiful in whatever she's wearing. But just like you said, if he doesn't like a certain color I'm not going to go out of my way to wear it all the time just to prove a point.
YES! If you want to incorporate more outgoing pieces start by slowly mixing them in one at a time! I didn't always feel comfortable wearing a striped sweater with polka dot pants... it takes time! Just wear whatever makes you feel beautiful and happy!
      AW thank you!

  3. Thanks soooo much for this, girl! I've have often run after other people's styles and tried to copy them, but once I stopped to think about it, it wasn't truly ME. I do have to say, I have a pretty bouncy and happy personality, so I can't live without bright colors, like you. However, I am a little more fastidious about things needing to "go" together, so wearing two prints and brown and grey together...well...let's just say I love it on you, but I'm lovin' my style on me. :)

    1. That's great Sarah! I think it's so important to love what YOU wear, but still be able to appreciate other people's style! You seem to be doing a great job at it!!!!
